Happy Diwali 2014,
known as the festival of lights is a festival which is celebrated in
the Hindu religion every year. The main significance of this festival is
winning of light over the darkness and also overcoming the evil power
and having a good hope in the future life. The spirituals and the
preparations may extend over 5 days. The main festival happens on the
Diwali night where we will be able to see the new moon night in the luni
solar month of Karthik in Hindu religion. Often on the calendar of
Gregorian we can see that the Diwali happens in October and in November.
Diwali begins on second month of Ashvin which comes on the 12th day. It
is celebrated by performing an Aarti on cow and calf and this symbol is
usually a symbol of love between the baby and her mother. The next day
it is celebrated as Dhana Trayodashi where the people involved in
business give importance for this festival. It is considered as a good
day for making good purchases in metals and kitchenware. This day is
also good for purchasing good metals like gold and silver. Next day is
followed by Naraka Chaturdashi where the people in the morning will take
a bath and before the sunrise and the bathing process is big process
where we use Utnas and perfumes which is followed by Aarti.
After the Naraka Chaturdashi the Lakshmi Pooja will arrive and it
happens on no moon day. The crackers are burned during the Diwali
Festival. After the Pooja new accounts are opened. On this day the
people are not making any payments. The Goddess Lakshmi is usually
worshipped with good care. People often forget many good things which we
tend to forget very soon. Relatives and friends are invited to the home
and the celebrations will happen in good spirit.

Before the Diwali night, people will clean and decorate their place and
will also modify their home. On the night of Diwali, the Hindu people
dress in good clothes which are best in their outfit and will also light
lamps and candles inside and outside their place. They will take part
in Puja which is organized in their home. The Lakshmi which is the
Goddess of prosperity and wealth. After this Puja the fire crackers will
blow. After that, family will exchange gifts and sweets between the
members of the family. Diwali is also seen as shopping time where it is
celebrated in different areas.
Usually Diwali is a festive moment for Hindu people. In different parts
of India festivals starts with the Dhanteras which is taken by the
Naraka Chaturdasi on the second day. Usually the Diwali is celebrated on
the third day. Usually the Padva is given to wife for maintaining a
husband, wife relationship a wonderful one. This is celebrated on the
fourth day of Diwali. The festivals ends with Bhau-Beej which is
dedicated to our sister for maintaining the bond between sister and
brother. The Dhanteras happens after Dussehra celebrations. Hindus
celebrate Diwali and Jains celebrate the festival of lights for
maintaining the Moksha which has been received by the Mahavira. Usually
Diwali is an official holiday in India and also in other countries.
Diwali Celebrations at Andhra Pradesh
Here in Andhra Pradesh, the festival last for 2 days, and Chaturthasi
is celebrated. On Diwali we follow different rituals which make our life
more wonderful. The festival starts with the crackers and it will carry
up tonight. Most of the people make an official visit to the temple
with their families for getting blessings from their Gods. In the night,
the fireworks are done with good noisy sounds. In Andhra Pradesh,
Diwali is 7th festivals which are important in Andhra Pradesh. There are
shops which sells the fire crackers and we can also see the shops in
cities and also in big villages. Always there some customs which are
traditional and we buy good clothes for the festival. Buying a new home
and vehicle is really seen as a good sign. Also, special sweets are made
for celebrating the festival. In Hyderabad some eating items are made
which will be available on that special day and it will not be available
anywhere else.

History of Diwali
Diwali is celebrated as an ancient festival of India and it comes after
the harvest the summer month of Hindu calendar of Karthikai. The
festival is named in Padma Purana and in other Sanskrit scriptures.
Divas or lamps represent the areas of sun, which is a cosmic cover of
light and also a big energy for our life.
Significance of Diwali

Significance in Spiritual religions

Diwali Puja
In Jain Religion the Mahavira last of Jain religion and on October 15 he
has given Moksh which is one Karthika day of Chaturdashi. In Sikh
religion Diwali is marked as Bandi Choor Divas where the Guru Gobind
just got free from himself, from the Hindu kings and also got released
from Islamic prison of the Jahangir and he came at Golden Temple which
is situated in Amritsar. From that day onwards the Sikh people celebrate
by lighting at Golden Temple and also fireworks are shown.
Significance of Dhanteras
The Dhanteras festival kicks the 5 day festival where the houses and
business areas gets cleaned and will be decorated colorfully. The
children and Women decorate at the entrance gate with Rangoli colors and
will also give some designs on the floor, which is in office and also
in the walkaways. The men get busy by giving lighting arrangements in
roadside and the renovation work will be completed quickly.

Significance of Naraka Chaturdasi
The Naraka Chaturdasi is celebrated on the second day of the festival,
which is also known as Choti Diwali. Rangoli which is good decoration
which we have seen in our houses. The rituals in bathing are held in
some areas which is also followed by Pujas in minor type.
Here the
Diwali is
usually celebrated with joy. Usually the firecrackers are burst and
sweet meals are distributed here. Here the people in the family worship
the Goddess. Members of the family will get together after dusk. When
Pooja and other offerings are made, the family celebrates Diwali
festival using the fire crackers. When compared to other areas, the
people celebrate it on their homes and family gatherings usually common
thing here. On the Diwali day the houses are lit brightly and windows
and doors are open as The Goddess Lakshmi is supposed to enter into the
home. Some people believe that the home cannot be darkened or abandoned.
Different kinds of Pithas are made and given to forefathers and it is
enjoyed with family and friends. On the Diwali night, people from
different parts of Orissa celebrate the Kali Puja and it is especially
seen in Jaipur and Cuttack area.
